Children's meditation

I put this together for my Grandchild after I made  my first one for her. She is 9. My Grandson who is 13 said the first one made him so relaxed that he would pay for it. I am taking him at his word and decided it would be lovely to make personalised meditations for other children. These can include things, places or animals that the individual child loves. If this resonates with you then please get in touch.

I think in todays world it is too easy for children to get stressed. Teaching them to Meditate and go into a quiet space can help them.

Looking back over 2017

2017 was an interesting year for many. Politics in the UK have been all about Brexit and some of the false things that were put before the voters. There was also an oil line built through Dakota Indian reservations against the wishes of the Indians living there. There has been a leak there already. Whenever there is an oil spill it kills all the area and wildlife around it. This can affect the land and water for many years after a spill. Many disabled people and those on benefits are not being treated correctly in the UK either with many being left homeless or without money. On top of all that, Donald Trump also advised there is no such thing as Global Warming! These are people in  power making those decisions and saying these things. It really makes you wonder where common sense and humanity to all has gone from those in power.

So many decisions made by governments that we wish could be taken back. It reminds me of the song by Queen-Is this the world we created. We have all been granted time on this earth and should all be taking care of it.  This may be voting in the right people but also taking responsibility for ourselves. No dropping litter or creating hatred amongst people.  Media outlets often portray things going wrong but how often do you see things on TV and Newspapers that are working for the good of people? It really makes people believe that the world is failing and nothing can change it. It can also make people fall into a depressive state of mind too. But don't believe that only Fearful things are happening!

Many babies were born during 2017 and this will have brought the gift of life into many families. Our job is to make sure they have a good land to grow up in. It is also up to us to make change happen. We can recycle so not as much gets sent to the tips. We can use less energy and we can be respectful to all living things. Whether you have a new born baby or an older child, it is never to early to instill kindness and respect for others.

We can also open our eyes to all the good things that the year brought us. Although food bank usage has increased, more people are waking up to see that their help is needed. All over the country people are donating both their time and goods to their local foodbanks. In Edinburgh 10 tiny homes are being built for the homeless and we just raised over 4million pounds through a massive sleep out in Princes Street Gardens. This will go to helping homeless people throughout the country. Money has also been committed by the Scottish Government in Partnership with Social bite to remove homelessness from our streets.

I am proud of all the people I have met who are opening their minds to finding that what they eat has an impact on their health. So does the state of your mind. A great book to read is The 5 side effects of Kindness by Dr David Hamilton. He explains in easy understandable language how we really can change our Body health by being kind. More people are growing their own vegetables and I have to say they taste so  different from shop bought ones. People are also trying to go Vegan for the month of January. More people than ever are cutting out meat and dairy from their diets (including me). I have to say I feel healthier for doing that.

I ended the year by buying something I have wanted for years. I have been saving up for it then got offered it at half price! Of course I said yes and this will be added to my therapies too. I will be  updating it on my website shortly.

Last but not least I am thankful for all the people that have learned reiki with me during 2017. It's great when I see the difference it can make to them and see them going on to change their lives. I am also grateful for all that they taught me too as we never stop learning.

Here's to 2018 and I wish you a great year full of Synchronicities.

Be Happier Through Being Grateful

Today I feel so grateful for my life. We all have times in our life when things may not be as we like, but the more you are grateful for what is good in your life, the happier you will become. You really should try it and see over the coming weeks the difference it  makes you feel.

Instead of watching TV and hearing about horrible situations, or watching soaps and getting caught up in family dramas (please remember the latter are not real), go outside instead. Let the wind go through your hair, even if it's getting to the time of year to wear hats and scarfs. Being in tune with nature is the way for a much healthier state of mind. What's even better is it's free!

Be aware that your life really does matter and somehow it impacts on others. I remember my grandson seeing a homeless person and gave him some of his lunch. We now have Social Bite who are trying to erradicate homelessness. If that person had not made an impact on my grandson, Eamonn would not be wanting to do more to help others at this time of year.

I was telling my reiki students yesterday that other Therapists challenged me to come out of my comfort zone and post videos on Social media. I even did a live video. After someone messaged me last night I found that these videos are helping the person. I loved hearing this. I will challenge myself  to do more of these videos and have gone as far as getting a copy go pro. I just need to learn the best way to use it. I tried in the local park and video'd the grass lol. It's all a learning curve and I am grateful for the opportunity to use it.

With Christmas coming up the shopping frenzies have begun. Please don't get caught up in this, especially if you don't have much money. Use your time for people instead. they will be much more grateful for it. Today I am grateful for sitting in my pyjamas at 10.20 am on a Sunday morning. See, it really doesn't take much to make me grateful and happy. What about you?

If you want to check out my videos you can find them both on Facebook and You tube.

Gratitude - What does it mean to you?

How often do you feel Gratitude?

The reason I ask this is I am sitting in my garden in the sunshine surrounded by colour. Nature is wonderful if you take time to be aware.  Apart from the flowers and trees, if you stand or sit quietly, you can hear the sounds of the different birds.Today I have taken photos of all the colours surrounding me.
A large part of the beauty in my garden is thanks to my wonderful neighbour. He took plants both large and small from his garden and planted them in mine. The rest I planted from seedlings and have watched them grow.

Another thing I am grateful for is the Hypnotherapy workshop I went on. As I advised in my last blog I am also transitioning to becoming Vegan. Since then I have lost 10 kg!  I have put a little back on as I had a friend staying but it is coming back off just as quickly. With her being Gluten Free and me eating plant based foods I was amazed at how many places in and around Edinburgh could accommodate us.Two places I would highly recommend for a visit, if you are ever up this way is Roslyn Chapel and also the Samye Ling Centre in the Borders. If you want to see photos I took in the latter you can see them on my Facebook page here.

There is always something to feel grateful for, even if it's having a roof over your head or food on your table. I make it a practice to write down three things before I go to bed. Sometimes I want to write a lot more. Why not try doing that and surprise yourself. Feel free to let me know what you are grateful for.

PS. Why don't you go and like my Facebook page. At the top of the page you will see pinned a competition I am running. If you want to share it I will be able to give out the prizes a little quicker.

Sometimes It's Okay To Not Be Okay

Last week at work I spoke with a husband whose wife had left their 18month baby alone in the bath. The baby has been in a coma for 3 months and is now brain damaged and on breathing and suction machines. I wanted to put out my arms to hug him. What an awful thing for the family to live with. All it took was a few minutes inattention. When you speak with people over the phone you never know what conversation is going to come through but this one shocked me big time.

This week I had a shock of my own when I returned to the house to see that I had been burgled. My brain felt paralised for the first day and now I am writing down all the things I think are missing. I've got a feeling that other things will be remembered as and when I need them. Apart from having my home violated it has left me feeling uncomfortable so my sage is going to come out this weekend.

During this time I have been so grateful for all that friends and family have both done and offered to do for me. I know that I will move on from this but during this time I keep thinking of the baby above. I hope that family has support as they will need it ongoing. There are always people in a worse situation than ourselves and it doesn't hurt us to remember this when we are feeling sorry for ourselves.

This has been one of the times that I have also been grateful for reiki. The first night I got to bed at 1am after waiting on the police and the person to deal with my window. I fell asleep instantly with tiredness. Over the last couple of days I have been giving myself lots of reiki which has minimised the stress I was feeling and has allowed me to relax a bit more. I am also thankful for all my friends on social media who have reached out to me so I thank them all.

Change Your Mindset, Enjoy Your Life

In my daytime job I speak to people with all sorts of vulnerabilities. This could be an elderly person that has not spoken to anyone for a few days or someone terminally ill. Often those that are in a really bad place health wise are those with the light shining from them. One phrase I often hear is " There is always someone worse than me". People can be so resilient even when in chronic pain. The opposite are those that believe everyone is against them and only think of what they cannot do. It shows time and again that mindset has a big part to play in how we live our lives.

I remember many years ago reading the Celestine prophecy thanks to my friend Lorraine who advised me she was bringing this book when she visited me in the summer. A couple of weeks later a parcel dropped through my letter box with the words to read it as it couldn't wait till summer! I could not put it down and have now read all the sequels. The main thing that comes out of the book is we are all one of 4 groups of people. They are intimidator, poor me, aloof and aggressor. At that time I found I was a poor me. Everything was going wrong and I felt like a victum. This book was a wake up call for me. Once I saw how my mind was working I took notice and tried to correct my thinking to be more positive. This became easier to do as time went by and reiki helped me immensly too.

It is all about Mindset. If you live in the darkness you will only see this. If you start by having a chink of light in your life then you will find this expands. Every day I look for something I am grateful for in my life. When you think this way more things throughout the day come into your mind that you are happy about.  Many of the people I talk to will have a laugh when we chat  as they know they cannot change the situation but it does not stop them enjoying life.

There will always be others such as a deceased relation of mine that for the last few years of her life, everytime we visited, the words from her were always "Why am I still here? I don't want to be  here." This was such a shame as she could have had so much to enjoy with what was in her life at that time. It also made it depressing for anyone visiting her. You can't change everybody but you can at least try by giving them things to look forward to.

Recently I saw a video of elderly people being taught how to use computers. (Video)They each had a young person that helped them set everything up and who eventually connected all the elderly to each other in a chat room. These were people who had met at a daycare centre and now could connect from their own homes. I thought the video was awesome and the people involved thought so too. To see their faces as they chatted to their friends was so good. This was brought home to me by chatting to a 95 year old man who used his computer daily yet I can speak to people from 50 years onwards who think they are too stupid to learn. One 84 year old was bought a laptop by her daughter who also paid for a training course with Apple to make sure she knew how to use it.  Already she was able to look up information on line and was proud to have an email address! I have also seen on the web that AgeUK  run computer courses as well. You are never too old to learn or change your mindset! Be positive and look for the good in each day.

Gratitude In The Moment

Do you ever feel you are running on empty and need to recharge your batteries? It could be you are a busy Mum or Dad, or a Business person but we are really all just the same. It is so easy to get caught up in all we want to do that we never stop to just be in the moment. The word "Want" is interesting though as it does not mean "Need". We can all wish for something that we would like to have but it may not be important, whereas things we need are. Are you chasing your tail because you want something or need it?

We all need to take time out for ourselves. One of the things we can make time for is to slow down and become aware of all that we are grateful for. This may start out as just a few minutes a day. This does two things for you. When you take it on board that there are good things in your life you will become more contented. Your mind is also an interesting piece of equipment. Your thoughts are energy, so whatever you are thinking about goes out there into the Universe. Imagine if you are thinking "I'm stressed, broke, unhappy, angry, sick", and that's all you think about? You are never going to feel better about yourself, and you will keep having the same Mindset as these thoughts will keep coming back to you.

Instead, when you think about all the things you are grateful for, you are filled with happy thoughts. Surprise, surprise, this then makes you happier! The more you are happy for just a few minutes at a time you will find this grows. You may be out walking thinking of things and have a smile on your face. A person may react  to your smile with one of his own and this makes you feel good too. The way you are will always impact on those around you. I make it my mission each day a few times to think of something to make me smile. Having two wonderful dogs around me makes this so easy!

You will find that those that are more contented and less stressed around you are people that take time to appreciate themselves. When you learn to live " In the moment", life really does become easier. While you are doing something, try not to think of all the other things you have to do, just concentrate on the task in hand. Just as important though is to remember that you are a person in your own right and you must take time for you! You may be a mother, teacher, doctor or anything else but you matter, and by taking care of yourself this then enables you to do all the others things that you need to action.

I leave you with my grateful thoughts for today. I was checking my website today and was really thankful for all those that have taken the time to give me testimonials for my therapies and teaching. I can feel myself smiling as I think about it.

It also looks like my daughter will be getting out of hospital after 3 weeks so her family will be so grateful to have Mum and Wife back home again.

Here is your challenge today.........

                          WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR?

Every day is a gift.

Do you ever wake up and just be thankful that you can see, hear and smell?  It's something a lot of us take for granted but all are not as fortunate as us.

Today I went into the garden with my dogs and saw a tiny bunch of snowdrops which have just opened. It is so easy to complain about the cold and the rain but here is a sign that spring is on its way. I then looked around the rest of the garden and could just see some daffodils peaking through the soil. Considering last week all I saw was brick hard ground it shows that things are always growing under the surface.

How about you? Are there  things you are studying- perhaps meditation - that you are struggling with? Does it sometimes feel as if you are fighting against a brick wall? Everyone can learn but it has to be at your own pace. I often tell students that struggle to just slow down when they are on a walk and be mindful of what they are passing in the streets and gardens. This is also a form of Meditation. If you can do this you are on your way. Listen to the sound of birds as you are walking. I love trying to work out what I am hearing. When you concentrate like this you block out all the other sounds around you. You may feel like the plants that are underground trying to push through but they always aim for the light and you should know that there is always light at the end of the tunnel in whatever you do. If you find it easier to meditate with others then look out for the groups around you.

Like the flowers we should all continue to grow in whatever we set out to do. It may be something you do on your own or with others. Give yourself some goals to reach so that you get there in small stages. It's much easier than looking at a big hurdle to get over. Use your ears and listen to any advice you are given. You do not need to take it but hearing another person's take on a problem often helps you find an answer to whatever the problem is.The most important thing is not to give up. It may take you longer to get to your destination but you will get there in your own time.

Most of all make sure you have time for whatever you are learning as this is time for you also to grow. I recently had a student that did not have time to practice reiki. She made a conscious decision to reorganise her life so she did have time for it. When you have a gift, you should use it. You cannot learn without making time for yourself. Treat everyday as a gift and enjoy it.

Everyday is a Gift, that's why they call it the Present.

The Social Media Effect

I was thinking today about what social media has brought into my life. I then found myself in a collage photo on a special persons page. This person Lives in India and I connected with him through a lovely lady who lives in  Spain.  Please check out his website and share it. He is a Heart surgeon and has already operated on 100 children for free due to his charity efforts. You may remember my blog last September when I holidayed with the author of the children's Skellee Rescue series in Spain. In fact back then she was on book number one but has since made a few more. You can find out more here and download a free book if you have young children.

This got me thinking that through her and others, I have connected with people all over the world that enrich my life daily. I have to say that previously I  had paid attention to what was just in my own locality, unless a major catastrophe was brought to my attention elsewhere in the world. Now I get information from all over the world and some of it speaks to me so that I also end up sharing it. This is one of the perks of social media. When someone shares something interesting it can go viral within hours and spread all over the world. Of course we need to make sure the information we share is correct before posting!

I have also read some fantastic books that I would never have considered before when some of these new friends have recommended them. The latest one took me three days (in between work) but I just did not want to put it down. It was called Bouncing Back:The life of Bill Bartmann and is all about Bill's life making and losing millions and at one time  he was even a Billionaire. I won't ruin the story but I loved the outcome. I have been able to read a lot of books on Positivity through these new friends and a lot about overcoming adversity. Today I read a story about how determined a  10 year old was to get  his first book published in India which took him 3 years so he became a publisher at 13 and by then he had written 4 books! Check this out here.. It put into perspective how much work can go into getting a book published although now it is easier with Ebooks but you then have to get your books noticed.

The internet has certainly opened up the world of communication and I love it. I would rather spend time on it than watching Television. In fact in the last few months my TV viewing has consisted of only switching on to watch the UK XFactor. Don't feel sad for me though as I love my life and don't really have time to watch TV. These days I would much rather be playing with or walking my puppies. I am also blessed to be able to pass the gift of reiki on to others which can make a big impact on both my life and theirs. If I was asked what had made the biggest impact on my life, the answer would be reiki but social media comes a close second. Through social media I have also met many people in person who have enriched me in many ways and for that I am most grateful. To everyone that I have connected to both online and in person I would like to say "Thank you for being in my life".

What does social media mean to you? Post in the comments box to let me know.

p.s. In the UK the clocks just went back last night so that means it gets darker earlier. Please everyone take more care and make sure you are able to be seen (especially cyclists).

Gratitude through life changes

Do you ever have one of those days when you feel your heart is fit to burst? I had one of those moments this morning. This last week has been full of great things happening, some unexpected , but all moving in the right direction and it's going to continue in the same way.

When I wake up in the morning and before I go to bed in the evening I always take a few minutes to go over what I am grateful for. This may be the changing seasons, family and friends, my puppies and lots more. Now, sometimes things do not go the way you might expect, but often you may find later that the right thing happened at the right time. Because of this I try hard to find something positive in every situation. I may not always succeed, as just like you, I'm human. This is always work in progress!

I have not always been like this. A few years ago I would have a couple of things go wrong and then wait for the 3rd thing to mess up. I then became involved with reiki and my attitude had a big change. I  read the Secrets of the Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer which had a big impact on me and then the Law of Attraction. With these teachers I started to think more positively and also realised that until then I had been a "Poor me" type of person. This comes from the Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield which I had also read and would highly recommend. This  is someone that always feels and acts like a victim and always has the guilt trip laid on them that they can never be good enough. I came across this today which is worth a read and explains the different types of people from the book. It is very illuminating.

When you realise that you do not like the type of person you are, you do your best to change and that is what I did. I did not want to be a victim. I wanted to prove myself stronger than that. I have read lots of books to help me evolve and went on to become a reiki teacher. Since then, lots of synchronicity has taken place in my life, leading me to lots of people and events that continue to help me grow. One thing I know is we never stop learning.

The world is a wonderful place to be at this time with more people coming together as one. We are all showing that we can make change happen worldwide with governments through the power of Social media and we all have so much energy to share with the world. Meditations are taking place and often they include people in many countries meditating for the same purpose all at the same time. Remember that thoughts are actions to attract.  When we all want the same thing, such as peace, we can collectively change world events by coming together. The feelings that you get from doing this are wonderful.

In the last week my Grandson Eamonn (aged 9) has been interviewed twice on local radio and is awaiting his second newspaper interview. You can find out why here as I think what he is doing is fantastic. Feel free to join in with him and give him some encouragement. He is grateful for what he has in his life and is helping others through his project.

I am going away with my favourite group SPICE  soon for a break and was planning to leave my puppies with a friend (at her request).
In the last few weeks she has taken on a rescue dog which has an infection and  the decision had to be taken not to have the pups to stay with her. On the same evening she advised me of this she told me not to worry. I came home to find another friend was going to look after the pups while she will walk them as they live opposite each other. How amazing is that especially as the other person has a puppy of her own. Talk about gratitude overflowing!

I could talk about gratitude all day especially about the clients I have. I feel that I have come full circle and now try to encourage others to have a positive attitude too. Often this can come about from people finding that the therapies I practice can help control the pain they have or help them combat depression. In fact I am soon to be going into a centre for people with Multiple sclerosis to let them try out my Sun Ancon Chi machines.

What you are grateful for today?  Feel free to tell me in the comments box.

Eamonn's Trading Project

This week my Blog is dedicated to my Grandson Eamonn.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude for the wonderful thing that he is doing. Before school had stopped for the holidays he heard the story of the man that started out with a red paperclip and kept trading up(Kyle).  He ended up with a house! Eamonn did not have such high expectations, and just wanted to try it for fun. A couple of days later he then decided he would help a local charity. He thought long and hard about which charity to help and decided on one that he personally knew was helping others. He went ahead, with dads help, and set up a Facebook page called  Eamonn's Trading Project.

In just under one week he has over 200 people liking his page and the swaps have started. As I type he has an Xbox, 2 controllers and 6 games ready to swap. The only rule is that every swap increases in value. The plan is whatever gift is left on Christmas Eve will be auctioned and the money will go to East Lothian Food bank.  This is a charity that helps people who are struggling. Unfortunately with all the benefit changes there are often people stuck between benefits that have no money to buy food. The food bank can supply them with a few days worth of groceries.

I often hear of families with children who get so many toys for Christmas that many stay unopened in the attic. What is this teaching them? Eamonn aged 9 and his sister Chloe aged 5 have been brought up to share things with others. I remember when he was much younger and saw something on television that was asking for toys to be boxed to send to a third world country. Eamonn came downstairs with an armful of toys and asked his mum for a box. He was aware at an early age that there were children a lot worse off than him.

As you can see from his photo with the cheeky grin, he is just a normal 9 year old boy that gets into scrapes like the rest of them but I know that doing this is making an impact on him so today I am looking for some help. Please like his page and give him some feedback. If you are local, see if you have anything that you can swap with him to help him Trade up and most importantly help share his page so that others can join in too.

He has even set up a Twitter page too. Businesses are welcome to join in too, so don't get left out. Help Eamonn make a difference knowing that you have played a part in it.

I personally can't wait to see how this develops.

Gratitude, Intention and Living a Positive Life

A few years ago when I was first attuned to reiki I felt I was starting out on a new journey. There were only a couple of people I knew that also practised reiki and although I loved it I was also a little insecure as many people thought of it as being airy fairy! Admittedly, some still do.

One day I was walking along my local seashore and came across this quote on a bench and it really resonated with me so much that when the time came to make my business cards this went on it. I felt a little bit like a Trailblazer at this time as I was telling everyone I met about reiki and what it was doing for me.

Last night I went to see Medium Jane Dawson and Psychic surgeon Chris Ratter in Edinburgh and it left me thinking how my life has changed for the better. I now know so many people who not only work with reiki but also Angels and energy in so many different forms. The world is changing for the better and I love being part of it.Through all the people I have met I get introduced to so many new things that my knowledge keeps on expanding. It was the first time I had seen either of them and really enjoyed the night.

Last week I was at a workshop and learned that even though I know our thoughts are more important than our words,  I was also surprised at what I learned. One of the things we were asked to do was stand with our legs hip distance apart and then move only our body (not our feet) while stretching out our arm with one finger pointing outwards. The aim was to see how far you could turn and point without moving your feet. You were then to see a point on the wall that you had reached to and mark it in your mind. Next we spent a couple of minutes with our eyes closed intending that we would go over 12 inches further when we did it again. I was astounded when this time my body moved more than 12 inches even though the time before I felt really stretched.  Try it and see for yourselves. I for one will definitely will be practising Intention more often now.

The same person also gave us information that when you smile at someone, even if they don't see it, both your brains light up. A fantastic reason to smile more! Although  Karen is a relationship coach I learned more than I expected that night and would recommend her in helping you to think differently.

Next weekend I am going to the Body and Soul fair in Edinburgh to hear   Dr David Hamilton in one of his workshops. Here is a man who specialised in biological and medicinal chemistry until he found out what the power of thought could do. He often found people being given placebo drugs did as well as those given the new trial drugs so decided to look into it more and has since written books on the subject. I am really looking forward to his workshop.

The interesting thing is that because I now know so many positive people who all enlighten me daily I don't have the time to go to all the events I would like to attend. How different is this from a few years ago when my life was made up of work and watching the TV! Even better, many people have now heard of reiki and thousands more have learned it in the last few years (including being trained or treated by me) so I no longer feel the odd one out. Of course, anyone that knows me still thinks I am odd lol.

If you want to change your life for the better can I suggest you look out groups on positivity, happiness, meditation, spirituality, reiki and any energy groups locally and become involved with at least one of them. This will help you to grow in the right direction. Just as important, intend that your life will change for the better.  Remember your thoughts are important. Find something to be grateful for daily and you will find yourself becoming a much more positive person. I would also suggest moving away from anyone that brings you down (we all know / knew at least one person that drains our energy). Instead, increase contact with more positive people. I know sometimes this is not possible if they are a family member but by joining one of the above groups you will learn how to leave with your energy at a better level than before.

You can also help yourself grow by helping others. One thing I like is the Pay it Forward movement. This was started by Catherine Ryan Hyde who wrote the book. If you check her out on Facebook you can also see a link to the offshoots from this book.To PIF you just help others without expecting anything in return. This way you can bring a smile to someone as well as feeling good yourself. It may be as simple as helping someone with their shopping or buying a homeless person something to eat or drink. In fact some shops are allowing you to buy food or a drink and pay to suspend another. This is a great idea that then lets a homeless person go in and ask for the suspended item that you have paid for. I love this idea.

Today I am grateful for all my family and friends that make up my life and wish to thank them all for being part of it, even if we don't manage to meet up as often as I would like. With true friends you always know that you can pick up and continue from where you left off previously, regardless of the time in between visits.

If you would like to start a journey using reiki and live in the Edinburgh area please feel free to contact me through my website. I would love to help change your life in the same way reiki has touched mine.
