New Author OnThe Block

I've just done what it says on the title. I can now call myself an author!  For many years I have kept a note of the numerous instances of synchronicity in my life. I'm sure if I had written them all down, the book would be at least twice its size. I almost feel like I should be starting all over again! If you have been in my life, you may find yourself reading about you!

What's even funnier is two things that happened today. I was reading a book and came across these words " Welcome to Reiki One. I’m Natalie, your Reiki Master, and I will be taking you on your first journey within Reiki" I then went and watched a video on how, if a child is having a strop, we should come down to their level and tell them it's all okay and we still love them.  I later went back to the book and the same story was being actioned in it. The mother bent down to her daughter's level and said "I love you, Meg, Even when you get cross, and even if I shout, I still love you. I always will. Do you understand?’

Synchronicity is wonderful and that's why I have filled a book with it. Many times now, people will come to me and start with the words" You will never believe what happened. Of course you will!" If things are meant to happen in our lives, then they will, even if we don't expect them to.

For anyone that missed my last Blog, please be aware that it is now being written on my website and I would love you to follow me there. www.peacharmonyandjoy.co.uk .

My book talks about reiki, crystals, animal communication, the  Sun Ancon chi machine and all the synchronicities that pull them together. You can either download the ebook or request a paper book.

I would love to hear if my words resonate with you and of any synchronicities you have had.

Sometimes Life Throws You A Curved Ball

Sometimes life throws us a curved ball which makes us take a look at where we are. I was recently off work due to hurting my back. When I returned to work it was obvious that my back was not up to sitting in a chair all day. Due to this I decided to leave work and my last day will be on 31st December 2018. I will start 2019 in a totally different place as I have decided to become a Full time Therapist. The interesting thing was for years I thought my back would not stand up to seeing clients all day. When I did the maths I found that I did not require to do this. I love reiki and very often am found chatting for up to an hour after a therapy session. I decided I did not wish this to change. I do not want to be rushing a client out to see the next one.

I was speaking to a client at the weekend who asked me when she should return. I told her what I tell everyone- when they decide they need more reiki. In the past I have had contact with a company who said to me "You must come for 8 sessions".  I have to say it didn't work for me. I think many times reiki can work in one session, but everyone is different and knows their own body and mind. I have clients who become depressed. I may not see them for 6 months until they feel the need for a boost of reiki. For this reason, even when it becomes my full time job I will not change my way of working.

I am looking forward to 2019 but will be opening up a bit more time for clients before then so do get in touch if you would like a session and remember I do have additional therapies. You can have Crystals, Thermotherapy with the Soqi Hothouse and Heat pad, Reiki and The Sun Ancon Chi machine. I am also now recording both meditation videos for adults and children and little stories for the children with their names in them. So far I have done one for gratitude and social isolation including bullying. Get in touch if you would like one of these done for someone you know or yourself.

I am also a distributor for the Sun Ancon Chi machine so get in touch if you wish to purchase one.

We all have to make the best of our life. If you get thrown a curved ball, see what life changes you can make too.

Gift vouchers are also available for  both therapies and Workshops.

Beautiful Colours, Beautiful Thoughts

What are you grateful for today? I  love the fact that the garden is full of colour. Looking out my front window I can see trees and hedges with different colours of green. In the  side garden I have orange Crocosmia, pink Roses, yellow Polyanthus, purple Lavender, pink / red Honeysuckle. I also have bushes that have flowered and now have the green leaves on them, and that's just in my side garden!

Inside my house I have trailing plants that are great for putting out Oxygen as well as good to look at.  If I look out my back garden then I am grateful to see all the plants that a neighbour planted for me including a fir tree that I love.

I have barely left my home in the last few weeks due to hurting my back but I think as long as you are surrounded by colour it can make life more interesting. Sometimes you may not be able to do all that you want but it makes me happy if I can appreciate things around me.  Even if you don't have a garden, plants in the home are good for your health so why not grow a few more. My only problem just now is all the emails I'm getting from a plant company, but know I cannot do any planting just now. Never mind, there's always next year!

I often hear from people that I am a positive person.  You can be too. It all starts with a thought and for me, reiki too. Remember that how you think will change how you feel!

Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life

Today I want to talk  to you about the different types of people that may be in your life. If you have read The Celestine Prophecy you will be aware of 4 personality types. They are:

1.The Intimidator
2. The Aloof
3.The Interrogator
4. The Poor me

I'm sure we all know someone who is an Intimidator. They control you by being in charge and making you feel fearful. They intimidate you and are generally not nice to be around. Perhaps if you don't do what they want you may lose your job! You may be unlucky to work around this type of personality. The solution is to try and remove them from your life.

The Aloof person attracts your energy to bring attention to themselves then withdraws. How about these people that post on social media that something terrible has happened or they are at the hospital but don't say any more? They then have every one posting "How are they? What's wrong?". Of couse you are left hanging without getting an answer. You might also ask how their day was and the only response you get from them is "Fine".

The Interrogator can be similar to the Intimadator but makes you question yourself.  They are never happy with whatever actions you have taken as they would have done differently. They will say things like " Why did you do that?" They will keep asking until they get answers from you, even if it's something you don't want to talk about. You may also find they constantly criticise you, always finding fault. It is one way for them to feel better about themselves.

The Poor me was me until I recognised this after reading The Celestine Prophecy. I was in a no money, bad roof, recently become a single mum situation. I was one of those people that if 2 things had gone wrong I was waiting for the 3rd? How many people do you know that think like that? I can think of loads. A poor me just wants someone to change their situation but it is really up to them to do this, not others. Even if you are sick and in bed, you can start by reading Self help books to change your Mindset.

Once you become aware of the different types of people around you it allows you to wake up and make changes in your life. My awakening was accelerated by learning reiki and I am now a totally different person to what I was all those years ago. Don't let people take charge of your lives, or if you see yourself as one of these personality traits, let this be a wake up call. We CAN all change our lives.

Teaching Children Meditation and How to be Confident

This week I had a special visitor. Up till 5 years ago I hosted Foreign Language students in my home. One of my students from 9 years ago was visiting Edinburgh this week and dropped in to see me. He was someone I always remembered, as when he arrived he brought me a purple scarf and on leaving he bought me The Reiki Bible with lovely words from him inscribed inside. He was a teacher and I always thought his students were so lucky to have him. While he was staying with me, he kept buying books and eventually sent 2 very large boxes full back to Spain. All purchased with his own money. Roll on 9 years and he is now the Deputy Head teacher of his school. He also told me they have introduced Mindfulness for his students from age 3 onwards. Like me, he believes if you teach them early it will set them up for life.

He is also aware that children learn more from interactive actions rather than sitting learning only from books. We discussed that children pick up languages much faster when they are younger. Each year his school brings in a teacher from another country to work with the children so they are constantly learning new languages. I only wish we had longer together as I loved hearing about how his school was being run. I truly believe that if children can learn ways to support themselves that they will grow up to be more confident adults.

I have trained my Grandchildren in reiki and can see the difference it has made to their families lives. I only wish I had learned earlier as I think my life would have turned out differently. Hopefully I would have got to where I am now but in a much easier way! My Grandchildren also love meditations that I put together for them. We have to remember that as well as all the learning they do as they are growing, they also need ways to escape too. This may mean having their heads stuck in a book, meditating or doing something they love. The most important thing is to help them enjoy their childhood as well as helping them learn for the future, but in the right way. All schools should take a lesson from how Juan's school is run. I think Meditation should be taught in all schools. It helps with all the stresses and strains of modern day life. If you are interested in teaching meditation to your own children or your school children I would highly recommend Calm Kids by Lorraine Murray.

If you would be interested in me making a personal guided Meditation for your child, or as a present for another, you can get in touch with me either through Facebook  or my website.

How To Reduce Stress In The Workplace

This is what I posted on Facebook this week and thought I would expand on it a little.
"I was looking at my Blog stats today and saw that someone had accessed a blog from 2015. After reading it I had a lightbulb moment. At work I have headphones on and often don't hear those around me. It has become a joke that I don't hear being advised to come off the phones lol. My blog was all about Mindful Meditation and how you can cut out sound around you and just hear the sounds of nature. I realised that when I am at work I cut off from the noise around me and concentrate on listening to the person at the other end of the phone. I have trained my brain to cut out the waffle going on around me and concentrate on what is really important. See, Meditation really does help you, unless you are meant to be getting a break from work!"

It made me think about all the people who are stressed at work. This may be to do with work or their personal circumstances. If you are an employee what would you like your employer to put in place? If you are an Employer what steps have you implemented to reduce stress in the workplace?

I remember taking my Sun Ancon chi machines into Scottish Gas for a Health and Wellbeing day. People were given an hour or so off the phones and usually it was held on a bank holiday. This then gave them the opportunity to walk around stalls to see if there was anything that could help them. With the Chi machine staff would lie on the floor for 10 mins time out and it made such a difference to their day. One of the comments was  "Why can we not have this here permanently? After a call with an angry customer we could have 10 minutes on the chi machine and feel both de-stressed and re- energised.

All workplaces need to do is get staff away from their desks for a period of time. This may be during a team time when people can discuss their concerns or just having a safe place for someone to go when they need time out.  Considering the things that are going on in the world at this time it is so easy to reach breaking point especially if your work or home life is stressful too. This can involve people going off sick and we all know that where mental health is concerned, the longer  you are off work, the harder it is to go back into the work environment.

If you are an employer think about what you can do to help. How about arranging someone to come and teach meditation to your workforce?  We are starting to see this taking place with children in schools. This will help them grow up with coping skills but many adults have never been taught this. You have an opportunity to change this and also help your business reduce sick leave at the same time. Remember, if you have happy staff you will have happier customers too.

If you are an employee and don't have an understanding employer check out what you can access yourself. Meditation, reiki and massage are a few things that can help you feel calm and relaxed. You can even go on YouTube and learn to TAP.  I am sure you can find Practitioners in your area to visit. Even if you go for a walk in nature for 30 mins you will feel better for doing this.

EMPLOYERS EVERYWHERE PLEASE WAKE UP. Treat your staff well and see them become more productive too!

Synchronicity and The Celestine Prophecy

I was speaking to someone today about when we can feel like a Victim. The thing that helped me understand this was when I read The Celestine Prophecy. This tells you of the different types of people that come into play in our lives. I found that I was living the life of The Victim.  Everything was going wrong in my life and it was all "Woe is me". Once I recognised this I was able to make changes and with the  help of reiki too I managed to change my mindset and have never looked back. My story gets interesting from then on. This is what is said by the author James Redfield.

“If one can connect and build up enough energy, then coincidental events begin to happen consistently.”
James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy

The first book came into my hands after a friend had read it. She advised I had to read it and she would bring it in the summer when she was coming to stay with me. Not two weeks had gone past when it arrived in the post with a message that it could not wait and I was to read it now. While I read the book which is also called The 9th Insight I felt strongly that James was into  Energy work and I totally resonated with the book. I then ordered the follow on books.  I also let 2 of my friends read the book.  The day after ordering I got an email to say one of the books was out of stock. I was telling one of my friends this and she said she had bought the one I had missed out on. More interesting was that it was from a  different online bookshop!

Eventually I read the next book and have to say it did not gel with me. I forced myself to read it to the end but felt that for me it did not work. Because of this I read the first chapter of the next book and decided not to continue reading it. A couple of years later I was at a Spice Scotland event and a person who was a reiki master, medium and Numerologist told me he had a message for me but not till after my birthday which was in a few weeks. He also asked me if I had read the 3rd book and I advised I had not. All he would say is " It's true".

A week after my birthday I suddenly remembered that he had a message for me. I then looked on my Spice booklet to see what events there was to do in the next month and saw he was back doing an event. I called the office and asked if they needed someone to coordinate the event and then agreed to do it.  That night I was  going to my bed when a book fell from the bookcase next to my bed. I took a look at it and just about freaked out when I saw it was the 3rd book! For the next few nights I stepped over it, not wanting to touch it. I then decided to pick it up and looked at it and was amazed at how I was understanding everything in it and then continued to read it from beginning to end. The only thing different this time around was I was now a reiki master / teacher! When I walked into the room where the event was being held a week later the person shouted out " She's read the book, She's read the book!" I asked him how he knew and he held his hands out very wide and said " Your Aura is way out here!"

“the First Insight is an awareness of the mysterious occurrences that change one’s life, the feeling that some other process is operating.”
James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy

The synchronicity was not to end there though as a few years later I was checking my Twitter account and saw a new follower. On checking it was none other than the author of the  Celestine series  James Redfield.  Even more interesting was he was advertising his new book called The 12th Insight, the next in the series. I went straight to the bookshop and brought it home to read straight away.

Since then I have been aware of Synchronicity in my life and how much this speeds up when you are aware of it. Thoughts are energy so watch out for what you are thinking about.

Looking back over 2017

2017 was an interesting year for many. Politics in the UK have been all about Brexit and some of the false things that were put before the voters. There was also an oil line built through Dakota Indian reservations against the wishes of the Indians living there. There has been a leak there already. Whenever there is an oil spill it kills all the area and wildlife around it. This can affect the land and water for many years after a spill. Many disabled people and those on benefits are not being treated correctly in the UK either with many being left homeless or without money. On top of all that, Donald Trump also advised there is no such thing as Global Warming! These are people in  power making those decisions and saying these things. It really makes you wonder where common sense and humanity to all has gone from those in power.

So many decisions made by governments that we wish could be taken back. It reminds me of the song by Queen-Is this the world we created. We have all been granted time on this earth and should all be taking care of it.  This may be voting in the right people but also taking responsibility for ourselves. No dropping litter or creating hatred amongst people.  Media outlets often portray things going wrong but how often do you see things on TV and Newspapers that are working for the good of people? It really makes people believe that the world is failing and nothing can change it. It can also make people fall into a depressive state of mind too. But don't believe that only Fearful things are happening!

Many babies were born during 2017 and this will have brought the gift of life into many families. Our job is to make sure they have a good land to grow up in. It is also up to us to make change happen. We can recycle so not as much gets sent to the tips. We can use less energy and we can be respectful to all living things. Whether you have a new born baby or an older child, it is never to early to instill kindness and respect for others.

We can also open our eyes to all the good things that the year brought us. Although food bank usage has increased, more people are waking up to see that their help is needed. All over the country people are donating both their time and goods to their local foodbanks. In Edinburgh 10 tiny homes are being built for the homeless and we just raised over 4million pounds through a massive sleep out in Princes Street Gardens. This will go to helping homeless people throughout the country. Money has also been committed by the Scottish Government in Partnership with Social bite to remove homelessness from our streets.

I am proud of all the people I have met who are opening their minds to finding that what they eat has an impact on their health. So does the state of your mind. A great book to read is The 5 side effects of Kindness by Dr David Hamilton. He explains in easy understandable language how we really can change our Body health by being kind. More people are growing their own vegetables and I have to say they taste so  different from shop bought ones. People are also trying to go Vegan for the month of January. More people than ever are cutting out meat and dairy from their diets (including me). I have to say I feel healthier for doing that.

I ended the year by buying something I have wanted for years. I have been saving up for it then got offered it at half price! Of course I said yes and this will be added to my therapies too. I will be  updating it on my website shortly.

Last but not least I am thankful for all the people that have learned reiki with me during 2017. It's great when I see the difference it can make to them and see them going on to change their lives. I am also grateful for all that they taught me too as we never stop learning.

Here's to 2018 and I wish you a great year full of Synchronicities.

Be Happier Through Being Grateful

Today I feel so grateful for my life. We all have times in our life when things may not be as we like, but the more you are grateful for what is good in your life, the happier you will become. You really should try it and see over the coming weeks the difference it  makes you feel.

Instead of watching TV and hearing about horrible situations, or watching soaps and getting caught up in family dramas (please remember the latter are not real), go outside instead. Let the wind go through your hair, even if it's getting to the time of year to wear hats and scarfs. Being in tune with nature is the way for a much healthier state of mind. What's even better is it's free!

Be aware that your life really does matter and somehow it impacts on others. I remember my grandson seeing a homeless person and gave him some of his lunch. We now have Social Bite who are trying to erradicate homelessness. If that person had not made an impact on my grandson, Eamonn would not be wanting to do more to help others at this time of year.

I was telling my reiki students yesterday that other Therapists challenged me to come out of my comfort zone and post videos on Social media. I even did a live video. After someone messaged me last night I found that these videos are helping the person. I loved hearing this. I will challenge myself  to do more of these videos and have gone as far as getting a copy go pro. I just need to learn the best way to use it. I tried in the local park and video'd the grass lol. It's all a learning curve and I am grateful for the opportunity to use it.

With Christmas coming up the shopping frenzies have begun. Please don't get caught up in this, especially if you don't have much money. Use your time for people instead. they will be much more grateful for it. Today I am grateful for sitting in my pyjamas at 10.20 am on a Sunday morning. See, it really doesn't take much to make me grateful and happy. What about you?

If you want to check out my videos you can find them both on Facebook and You tube.

Feeling rejuvenised and rested

I have just returned from a cruise. It is something I had wanted to do for 13 years, since I did my last one and only cruise with my daughter. It came about as I was on holiday with a friend last year and mentioned I could never get anyone willing to travel on the water with me. They all wanted a holiday on land.  This friend shouted out "Me!" After she said that, we went to a travel agency and booked. Talk about the Universe giving me the answer I needed.

It used to be that people that went cruising were elderly and rich. You do still get that but our cruise was full of people of all ages, like us, that had saved up and there were also families that had been put forward by the Make a Wish Foundation. These are holidays for children who are terminally ill. There were others that had moved closer to cruise terminals so they could get cheaper cruises, more often. There were many families with children of all ages too. They were all catered for.

We met loads of lovely people on board and learnt many stories from people. One lady even told us her son started designing Web sites at age 11 and then set up his own company aged 13! He then went on to sell it and is now in a good space.  What a proud Mum that was.

Sometimes people can become so insular on holidays. On Cruises you get the opportunity to sit and talk if you want which is good. While on the Caribbean seas I did some meditation and even recorded one which is on my Facebook page here.  I have also recorded some more meditations on my You tube channel- here.

Holidays are great to take a break from everyday life. Even if you spend time at home doing something just for you, it will be a break from what you normally do. It also gives you a chance to have time to make decisions that require changes.  I feel nice and refreshed and of course it was great to get home to my 2 dogs who were being looked after by a friend.
I am now looking forward to  running my reiki level 2 workshop on 4/5th November and my level 1 workshop on 18th November. These are held in Edinburgh so if you are looking to learn reiki then get in touch.

Living your life through love

Do you ever speak to a person who is a total inspiration? This week I did and I can't stop thinking of our conversation. I spoke on the telephone to a lady who was 84 years of age and she had a heart of gold. She had been previously treated for cancer and still keeps in touch with the doctor who treated her. She even wrote to the doctors mother to thank her for bring up her wonderful daughter so that she could help others including herself!

She also checks people that seem alone and sad and sits down with them until they change how they are thinking. She told me of one person she was walking past who had just had a family loss and was feeling angry. She sat with her at a beach and helped her to see her situation in a different light and advised her that the person was still around her and she could still talk to her. By the end of her conversation the load on the ladies shoulders was lightened.

She also advised me that she had been writing for years about all the wonderful things that had happened to her. I suggested putting it into a book and she took this onboard. It reminded me of all my jotting down about synchronicity since reiki came into my life.

Throughout this conversation she was telling me how fantastic both myself and the previous person she had spoken to were. She was full of praise for the help and patience we had both given her. I advised that I wanted  to thank her as I believe the way she lives her life is what we should all aspire to- helping others when we can and building them up. One of the things she mentioned was helping in a group and said it hurt to see people in their 60's who acted like 90 year old's. Maybe if people thought of what they could do for others instead of looking inwardly the world would be a better place. What do you think?

Change Your Mindset, Enjoy Your Life

In my daytime job I speak to people with all sorts of vulnerabilities. This could be an elderly person that has not spoken to anyone for a few days or someone terminally ill. Often those that are in a really bad place health wise are those with the light shining from them. One phrase I often hear is " There is always someone worse than me". People can be so resilient even when in chronic pain. The opposite are those that believe everyone is against them and only think of what they cannot do. It shows time and again that mindset has a big part to play in how we live our lives.

I remember many years ago reading the Celestine prophecy thanks to my friend Lorraine who advised me she was bringing this book when she visited me in the summer. A couple of weeks later a parcel dropped through my letter box with the words to read it as it couldn't wait till summer! I could not put it down and have now read all the sequels. The main thing that comes out of the book is we are all one of 4 groups of people. They are intimidator, poor me, aloof and aggressor. At that time I found I was a poor me. Everything was going wrong and I felt like a victum. This book was a wake up call for me. Once I saw how my mind was working I took notice and tried to correct my thinking to be more positive. This became easier to do as time went by and reiki helped me immensly too.

It is all about Mindset. If you live in the darkness you will only see this. If you start by having a chink of light in your life then you will find this expands. Every day I look for something I am grateful for in my life. When you think this way more things throughout the day come into your mind that you are happy about.  Many of the people I talk to will have a laugh when we chat  as they know they cannot change the situation but it does not stop them enjoying life.

There will always be others such as a deceased relation of mine that for the last few years of her life, everytime we visited, the words from her were always "Why am I still here? I don't want to be  here." This was such a shame as she could have had so much to enjoy with what was in her life at that time. It also made it depressing for anyone visiting her. You can't change everybody but you can at least try by giving them things to look forward to.

Recently I saw a video of elderly people being taught how to use computers. (Video)They each had a young person that helped them set everything up and who eventually connected all the elderly to each other in a chat room. These were people who had met at a daycare centre and now could connect from their own homes. I thought the video was awesome and the people involved thought so too. To see their faces as they chatted to their friends was so good. This was brought home to me by chatting to a 95 year old man who used his computer daily yet I can speak to people from 50 years onwards who think they are too stupid to learn. One 84 year old was bought a laptop by her daughter who also paid for a training course with Apple to make sure she knew how to use it.  Already she was able to look up information on line and was proud to have an email address! I have also seen on the web that AgeUK  run computer courses as well. You are never too old to learn or change your mindset! Be positive and look for the good in each day.

Let The Light Through.

The world can easily feel like a dark place with all that's going on in it. Although I have not watched or listened to the news or read newspapers for a couple of years, I still get bombarded with it through social media. When we see and hear things like murders, accidents and generally anything that does not put a smile on our faces it can pull us down and we can get lost in thinking the world is a bad place to be. This is not really true but the media puts the fear into us. You may notice they are not so good at promoting all the great things that happen. I see things every day from  children- yes children- inventing brilliant medical advances and ways to help the third world. It's always best to try and concentrate more on the good things in life rather than the bad as you will have a happier life. It's okay though to have off days too as we are human after all.

Of course you can feel down in others ways too. This may be due to  health or other factors. This week I shocked myself with how upset and frustrated I found myself at a situation, which is not like me. The answer to calm myself down was to come home, have a cuddle from my dogs then go and sit down for an hour, while I gave myself reiki. After this I finally felt able to relax after a very stressful day. We all have to find our own coping mechanisms for when we get stressed. Holding it too close to us is what can make you unwell. Have a think about what you do to remove stress from your life.

I got out of bed the next day and decided that although the situation was ongoing I was not going to let it affect me the same way. In fact I posted this picture on my Facebook page.
I walked my dogs in the morning and realised it was light. When did that happen I thought to myself. Isn't it funny how you can be around something without even noticing it? I also realised when I came home that evening that it was light too. When you both leave for work and return in darkness the days always seem so short so it is good to see it again from the other side. This also helps people who are depressed or have SAD ( Seasonal  Affective Disorder). During the Winter I see more depressed people coming for reiki than throughout the rest of the year. I came home and the first thing I thought of was walking the dogs and enjoying the daylight. I then started to plan my exercise program as it's not much fun to walk in the dark. Maybe the universe did not want me moving so fast as that day I also put my foot in a pothole in a car park and twisted my ankle but I will get there.

I find it also depends on who you have in your circle what type of mood you can be in. If you are with someone who is in a bad mood or feeling sorry for themselves it can lower your vibrations if you allow this to happen. Yes we can all be down at some time but  hopefully with the right people around you it will not be for long. In fact this week when I had my hiccup, someone who I taught about Positive thinking was the one that nudged me in the right direction. That was good for me seeing how much she had grown!

The light days show that spring is here so I'm now looking forward to all the things I can do with the extended sunlight. Isn't it interesting that it feels like there are more hours in the day when it's light? It's really just the same 24 hours in a day but it is how we use them that make us feel more content. I'm sending you all Love and Light and hope you too are making plans to help you enjoy life more.

Every day is a gift.

Do you ever wake up and just be thankful that you can see, hear and smell?  It's something a lot of us take for granted but all are not as fortunate as us.

Today I went into the garden with my dogs and saw a tiny bunch of snowdrops which have just opened. It is so easy to complain about the cold and the rain but here is a sign that spring is on its way. I then looked around the rest of the garden and could just see some daffodils peaking through the soil. Considering last week all I saw was brick hard ground it shows that things are always growing under the surface.

How about you? Are there  things you are studying- perhaps meditation - that you are struggling with? Does it sometimes feel as if you are fighting against a brick wall? Everyone can learn but it has to be at your own pace. I often tell students that struggle to just slow down when they are on a walk and be mindful of what they are passing in the streets and gardens. This is also a form of Meditation. If you can do this you are on your way. Listen to the sound of birds as you are walking. I love trying to work out what I am hearing. When you concentrate like this you block out all the other sounds around you. You may feel like the plants that are underground trying to push through but they always aim for the light and you should know that there is always light at the end of the tunnel in whatever you do. If you find it easier to meditate with others then look out for the groups around you.

Like the flowers we should all continue to grow in whatever we set out to do. It may be something you do on your own or with others. Give yourself some goals to reach so that you get there in small stages. It's much easier than looking at a big hurdle to get over. Use your ears and listen to any advice you are given. You do not need to take it but hearing another person's take on a problem often helps you find an answer to whatever the problem is.The most important thing is not to give up. It may take you longer to get to your destination but you will get there in your own time.

Most of all make sure you have time for whatever you are learning as this is time for you also to grow. I recently had a student that did not have time to practice reiki. She made a conscious decision to reorganise her life so she did have time for it. When you have a gift, you should use it. You cannot learn without making time for yourself. Treat everyday as a gift and enjoy it.

Everyday is a Gift, that's why they call it the Present.

Mindset Over Age - Positive Thoughts Go A Long Way

It always seems my Blog gets more views than the source of this article so I've added it here.

This past month has been full of experiences at work that I felt impelled to write about it. I work for a company and help people with vulnerabilities. This can be age, health or low income related. Most of this is done over the phone where a lot about a person's state of mind can be found out during our conversation.
There will always be people that feel down due to one of the above but what really makes me smile is the amount of people that think positively regardless of their situation. Two that stood out for me recently were an 84 year old lady that had just returned from a 2 mile walk. She mentioned that it shocked her earlier that day to realise she was now 84. She said that others may be expecting her to slow down but she had no intentions of doing that. The other was an 80 year old lady. She honestly sounded like she was 30. When I mentioned this to her she said that she had long blonde hair, a slim body and wore up to date clothes so there was no reason for people to think she was a fuddy duddy 80 year old.

I love having conversations like that with customers. It shows that age is just a number. It's how you feel inside that matters - not how old you are. This happens time and time again in my job. In fact some take umbrage that they are called vulnerable due to their age. When I advise the only way we know if they truly are is by speaking to them then they are okay with it.

I have even found customers that have such massive health problems which may include them being on mains powered medical appliances but they always believe that someone may be worse off so they get on with their day without complaining. On the other side there are people that feel the world has done them a disservice. They feel depressed and stuck in a dark place feeling like victims. To them every day is the same and there feels no way out for them. Sometimes I hear they have been on antidepressants for years and never sent for any kind of counselling. I think this is a disgrace as we should be trying to help these people get back to a normal life.

Life for all of us is made of up and downs. If we look at what we learn in a down period we can apply this to our life to increase the amount of up periods that we have. I do not focus after work on all the customers that are so down although every so often one can really affect me. I listen to see if I can point them in any direction to help them and move on. This type of job is not for everyone I can assure you. Instead at the end of each day I think of anything that stood out in a positive way. This is what I take home with me rather than feeling dragged down by all the doom and gloom.

Getting back to age though I can often speak to someone in their 50's or 60's who truly sound as if they are 90. They have perhaps retired and have nothing to do with their lives. They already have closed mindsets that they cannot learn new technology because they are too old! I told a customer last week that if I had £1 for everyone that mentioned they may not still be on this earth next year that I would be very rich. It's a shame that people feel this way as they are wishing away their lives rather than finding things to enjoy in it.

I had a lady recently who came to one of my reiki workshops. Her plan had been to learn reiki when she retired later this year. I asked why wait till then and she has learned it before retiral. She has already thought of what she wishes to do in retirement and will be working through her level 2 in the future. The main thing I believe is to have extra interests outside of work or home before you retire. That way you can still have things to look forward to when it is time to move on.

Life should not stop until we are no longer of this earth. Every day we are alive we should make sure we are actually taking part in it. Like my 84 year old lady take a walk or a hike in nature. If your health restricts you take up a hobby. Nowadays there are many groups that can collect you and take you to places to meet other like minded people.

To all those that have the positive mindset I take my hat off to you. You know how to get the most out of life and are probably enjoying yourselves more than others in similar circumstances.

Take a look at your life and see where you are going? Are you going to be someone that makes the best of life or if not you can start to change it now.

Living your life with Gratitude

I have recently had the Bon Jovi song "It's my Life"  going round in my head. Check out the lyrics here. It talks about living while you are alive. It made me think how many people go through day to day just existing rather than living.

Do you have a job you go to that feels not right for you? Are you there just to pay the bills or because you like working there? Do you  go to work then come home and vegetate? Would you call this living while you are alive? I certainly don't think so. Life has to have some sparkle to it both in and out of employment.

There may be some of you reading this who are unemployed and may feel you just have to get through each day as everyday feels the same, perhaps without much hope depending on where you live. You all have the choice to make changes. It's up to you if you choose to do something about it.
If you look around there is so much more out there for you to use your time wisely.

There are many charities needing help and there are many organisations set up for whatever you like doing. It could be music, sports, films and so much more.  Search and you will find something to do that will make you happy. If you feel down check out all the pages on the internet starting with the words Positive or Grateful. They both actually go together. The more grateful you are for things in your life, the more positive you become.  Remember also that your thoughts attract so being positive will start aligning you with more positive things coming your way.

I am lucky to enjoy the people that I deal with in my work but I also make sure I have a life outside it. One of my students Beata Dziameka tonight posted an awesome photo taken locally that took my breath away(see the top of this blog). Isn't nature wonderful? We can't always be in the right place at the right time but through social media we can see it through someone else's eyes.I love seeing wonderful posts from across the world but for me it's more spectacular to be able to see things closer to home. I am so lucky to live in a city that has sea, hills, parks and lots of green spaces so there are always places to go that make me feel good. I remember years ago when I was in a darker place that I would go to the same sea as above and sit in the car for 30 minutes.  When I returned home I was always in a different frame of mind.

We are now in a world that we have distressing things thrown at us on TV, Newspapers, Radio and just about wherever we go. All of this pulls our vibrations down so it is good to look out for things to raise it too, We all need balance. This wonderful little girl was brought to my attention this week. Just listening to her will raise anyone's emotions.

As Bon Jovi say "We are not going to live forever". It's your life so make sure you enjoy it while you are here.

Comments are welcome.

CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE

I recently had a client who spoke of her Grandmothers positive attitude. She died a couple of years ago aged 100!  The client mentioned that she used to feel uncomfortable if she was complaining about a bad day at work as gran had been on her own all day, but then she only had positive things to say back to her granddaughter. The Grandmother had always been like this and the client thought this was what had made her live so long and contentedly. This made an impact on my client and she now tries to think positively in many more situations she finds herself in.

It may have taken some time to break through but the connection was finally made.  Now this client is going on to bring her children up in the same way. This is the way I  believe that children should be brought up, knowing they can look for the best in things as well as knowing they are loved. It is important to be aware that how we talk and what actions we take will all make a difference on how our children grow up
.

We have to remember that the greatest thing we can do is give them a life of happiness by instilling them with joy of life. Interacting with children on a daily basis by doing things such as painting or baking is a great way to bond with them. It is not the amount of time you spend with them that is important though, rather the quality of the time you have together.  Giving them lots of hugs will make them feel loved too. Children are our future so we want them to learn how to raise their vibrations and those of people around them from an early age. This way they can impact on the world to be a much better place as they grow older as well as being confident and happy. I saw something recently that said if everyone had the heart of a dog, the world would be a happier place. That surely would be a great thing to see.

Help children to see the magic that is all around them. See the world through your children's eyes and teach them to observe the colours and sounds all around them. Make sure they spend time outdoors. Another thing is to help them learn to be still. More and more times these days we are being told children have ADHD. I do not believe this is correct. The problem is children no longer take time to be still. All you need do is talk to a primary school teacher. They find children fidget and are restless much more now than in previous years when they are having either quiet time or story time.

Many children also no longer get to sit or lie still while adults read a story to them, which is a shame as reading is a great bonding time for both adult and child. Too often they are busy playing games on computers or watching television and then they are expected to immediately wind down and go to sleep. It's like you watching a horror film then trying to sleep. No wonder many children play up at bedtime.

Meditation is a great way to help still the mind and can be started at any age. A great book I have come across is Calm Kids by Lorraine Murray. Lorraine is soon to release another book on meditation for children with special needs. I remember listening to a meditation cd a few years ago with my young Grandaughter. She was so involved in the meditation that she wanted to know where the Unicorn had gone to. Another time I took her on a meditation journey that I had made up after reading Lorraine's book. Watching as her head moved following the journey was a beautiful experience. Children have great imaginations if we only take the time to help them use it.

Remember that children are our future and help them grow up to be happy, thoughtful, positive and grateful members of our society.  They will thank you for it!

Raising our vibrations.

How are you feeling today?

Here in Edinburgh we have had sunshine for 3 consecutive days. To some of you that may not seem like much but you can see the difference in people here as everyone goes about their day. You can't walk down a street without seeing someone gardening, washing their car or even sitting in a sun lounger in their garden. Most of all you see a lot more people smiling. If you smile at someone they will usually smile back so why don't you join in and keep the cycle going.

When the sun shines it lifts our vibrations. We  feel happier and more communicative with others. We go walking more and often people are to be found in the parks that they have not visited since last summer or autumn. It's like everyone comes out of hibernation. All the fair weather dog walkers can be seen again, joining those of us that are out in all weathers. This is a great way to meet people rather than shutting yourself away during the colder months. I can't believe that my 2 x15 month dogs have now owned me for just over a year. It's amazing how fast time passes when you are having fun.

Our Winter in Scotland has not been too bad. We have had lots of rain and cold winds but nothing like it was a couple of years ago. For some though who suffer from Seasonal Affective disorder it will seem as if there is light at the end of the tunnel with the ending of Winter. I often wonder if raising their vibrations with reiki  energy would help these people get through Winter easier. If anyone has treated any clients with SAD I would love to know what impact it has had on them.

I actually find things to love in each of the 4 seasons and just make the most of whatever the weather is like. In Scotland we can have 4 seasons in one day so we just have to adapt to what we get delivered to us. There is really no point in complaining about the weather when we cannot do anything to change it so it's much better to find things to do that suit the weather type. In Edinburgh we are very lucky with all our free museums for the rainy days and our beautiful parks for the sunny ones.

Now that we can all look forward to warmer days (with I'm sure wet and windy ones in between) I'm wanting to connect more with nature and visit places that my dogs can come with me. I was checking my diary today and can see that it is already getting filled up. The amount of people finding reiki this year has made me very happy, especially when they come back to me to tell me how much it is changing their lives. This often happens if I have trained them on how to use it for themselves. Life is all about balance though so I make sure that I have plenty time for clients and also myself. That is the way to enjoy life.

Although it's nice to do things on the spur of the moment, why not look at all the places in your own neighbourhood that you have forgotten about and plan to pay them all a visit over the next few months. It may be that you last saw them when you were a child but you can really enjoy them just as much as an adult. If they take you outside with nature then you will find your feelings of well being growing which in turn will make you have an even happier day. Now that it's warmer, take time to appreciate what you see as you walk more slowly down the streets too.

I appreciate watching all the gardens coming alive with colour especially as my dogs wrecked all the plants in my garden. I am very lucky though that I have a neighbour who is rebuilding a garden for me that the dogs will not be allowed access to and it's coming on great so I can look forward to colours in my garden again. I know, they look like they would never do anything wrong but looks can be deceptive.

The Social Media Effect

I was thinking today about what social media has brought into my life. I then found myself in a collage photo on a special persons page. This person Lives in India and I connected with him through a lovely lady who lives in  Spain.  Please check out his website and share it. He is a Heart surgeon and has already operated on 100 children for free due to his charity efforts. You may remember my blog last September when I holidayed with the author of the children's Skellee Rescue series in Spain. In fact back then she was on book number one but has since made a few more. You can find out more here and download a free book if you have young children.

This got me thinking that through her and others, I have connected with people all over the world that enrich my life daily. I have to say that previously I  had paid attention to what was just in my own locality, unless a major catastrophe was brought to my attention elsewhere in the world. Now I get information from all over the world and some of it speaks to me so that I also end up sharing it. This is one of the perks of social media. When someone shares something interesting it can go viral within hours and spread all over the world. Of course we need to make sure the information we share is correct before posting!

I have also read some fantastic books that I would never have considered before when some of these new friends have recommended them. The latest one took me three days (in between work) but I just did not want to put it down. It was called Bouncing Back:The life of Bill Bartmann and is all about Bill's life making and losing millions and at one time  he was even a Billionaire. I won't ruin the story but I loved the outcome. I have been able to read a lot of books on Positivity through these new friends and a lot about overcoming adversity. Today I read a story about how determined a  10 year old was to get  his first book published in India which took him 3 years so he became a publisher at 13 and by then he had written 4 books! Check this out here.. It put into perspective how much work can go into getting a book published although now it is easier with Ebooks but you then have to get your books noticed.

The internet has certainly opened up the world of communication and I love it. I would rather spend time on it than watching Television. In fact in the last few months my TV viewing has consisted of only switching on to watch the UK XFactor. Don't feel sad for me though as I love my life and don't really have time to watch TV. These days I would much rather be playing with or walking my puppies. I am also blessed to be able to pass the gift of reiki on to others which can make a big impact on both my life and theirs. If I was asked what had made the biggest impact on my life, the answer would be reiki but social media comes a close second. Through social media I have also met many people in person who have enriched me in many ways and for that I am most grateful. To everyone that I have connected to both online and in person I would like to say "Thank you for being in my life".

What does social media mean to you? Post in the comments box to let me know.

p.s. In the UK the clocks just went back last night so that means it gets darker earlier. Please everyone take more care and make sure you are able to be seen (especially cyclists).
